According to Rockstar Games, the developer behind the franchise, the leaked trailer divulges that the sixth chapter is set to debut in 2025.

Originally slated for release on Tuesday, December 5, at 9 am PST, the premature online appearance prompted Rockstar Games to address the situation on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. In a post, the company urged viewers to “watch the real thing on YouTube” after acknowledging the unauthorized leak.

The arrival of GTA 6 has been a protracted wait for fans of the action-adventure series, with the last installment, GTA 5, hitting the shelves in 2013. The revealed trailer introduces a female protagonist named Lucia, engaging in a criminal escapade across bustling beaches, city highways, and clubs, mirroring a modern-day Bonnie-and-Clyde dynamic with her partner.

Rockstar Games, a subsidiary of Take-Two Interactive, has grappled with issues of confidentiality breaches in the past. In 2022, the company fell victim to hackers who leaked unreleased footage from the upcoming GTA iteration. Screenshots and gameplay videos surfaced online, confirmed by the company as genuine and leaked due to a “network intrusion.”

During that tumultuous time, Rockstar Games released a statement on what was then Twitter, stating, “We recently suffered a network intrusion in which an unauthorized third party illegally accessed and downloaded confidential information from our systems, including early development footage for the next Grand Theft Auto.” The gaming community was left in shock by the unauthorized disclosure of sensitive material.
